There’s been so much action in the Hero U15 Youth League over the last couple of weeks that we’ve barely been able to keep pace with the developments! Here’s a quick summary of the results from weeks 6 and 7 from around the country:

GFI U15 Youth League - Week 6 and 7

Group A: Kolkata-Jamshedpur Zone

East Bengal started Week 6 brightly with a 3-0 victory over arch rivals, Mohun Bagan, with the help of a Suphal Sarkar hat trick. However, their joy would be short-lived as they ended Week 7 with a disappointing home loss to SAI East. Meanwhile, Mohun Bagan, still smarting from the loss to East Bengal, unleashed their fury on Tata Football Academy in Week 7 by playing them off the park in an emphatic 7-0 win. Tata Football Academy remained rooted to the table with two poor losses in Weeks 6 and 7 after giving indications that they might have turned the corner after their Week 5 win over SAI East. United Sports Club, however, kept up their good form beating Tata Football Academy in Week 6 before settling for a score draw against Mohammedan SC in Week 7 to remain top of Group A.

Group B: Maharashtra Zone

In Maharashtra, Kenkre FC finally opened their account in Week 6 with a narrow 1-0 win over PIFA Sports, but were unlucky not to get anything out of their game against table toppers, Pune FC, in Week 7 despite a decent showing. Week 6 featured the big Maha Derby with the two unbeaten teams from Group B, Mumbai FC and Pune FC, locking horns. However, the match turned out to be a battle of attrition as both defences locked down to play out a goalless draw at the Cooperage. Elsewhere, Steadfast Mumbai Rush SC kept their first clean sheet of the league and held firm to deny DSK Shivajians FC a win. After a return of only 1 goal in 3 matches during Week 6, Week 7 ended up being a goal fest led by Mumbai FC’s 6-goal rout of Steadfast Mumbai Rush SC while PIFA Sports and Pune FC picked up tight 1-goal victories. At the end of Week 7, Mumbai FC have moved closer yet to breaching Pune FC’s stranglehold on the group’s top position being held only on goal difference.

Group C: Goa Zone

In the two games played during Weeks 6 and 7 in the Goa Zone, Sporting Club de Goa were the big winners with a 3-0 victory over Dempo Sports Club through goals by Aman Govenkar, Nikhil Correia and Savelon Cardozo. Having started the season off with a 5-goal win over Sporting Clube de Goa, Dempo will have to work hard to arrest their alarming slide since then. Meanwhile at Assolna, bottom-placed SAI Goa settled for a creditable 0-0 draw against the group’s top side, Salgaocar FC.

Group D: Guwahati-Shillong Zone

The U15 Youth League action in Group D finally got underway on December 10th when Gauhati Town Club welcomed Rangdajied United FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Guwahati where Wanshanlang Dkhar’s brace helped the away side to a 3-1 victory. Royal Wahingdoh FC, the toast of last season’s Senior Division I-League under Santosh Kashyap, were ones to set the pace, however, by posting a massive 7-0 win over debutants, Guwahati FC, to complete the first round of fixtures in the group.
